A journey to Asian Atlantis

Asian Atlantis, or more formally known as Yonaguni Monument is arguably a massive stepped pyramid or city which was sunk into the south sea of Japan 2000 years ago. It was first discovered in1987 and continues to spread it fame wider and wider out of Japan. Interested by the news, I eventually toured to the land of the rising sun to witness this spectacular structure which had been forgotten by humans.
Having left Haneda airport of Tokyo in January 2nd 2011, I directly continued my journey by the world fastest train toward Kyoto for the night resting. My trip went on until I finally arrived at the shore of Japanese south sea. I and my traveling companion settled off shore on an engined boat, each with a diving suit , headed fast , through the freezing sea breezes , toward the site where the pyramid is located.
I dived down , and a few minutes later, it appeared ,in front of my eyes, the grand pyramidal structure, almost entirely covered by exotic coral reef. I couldn't believe my eyes and moreover, I just could not believe that this wonder is under water's surface and was almost forgotten.
It is said by some scientists to be totally natural and made as a result of strong tectonic plates in the region. However, as I swam along different levels of it terraces, I experienced seeing some strange carvings on it rocky walls which are proofs to me that it was not made naturally.
I went back up to the surface and thinking how many of this type of building left undiscovered. Personally, Yonaguni underwater pyramid is one of the most mysterious and incredible wonders of the world.

  2. Intriguing! I knew about the legend of the lost city of Atlantis, but not this "Asian Atlantis."

I like how you work in details about Japan and the area, like traveling on the world's fastest train. How were the carvings strange? Why does that make you certain that this is human-made? (instead of carving onto a natural structure)?

    I liked this sentence:

"I and my traveling companion settled off shore on an engined boat, each with a diving suit, headed fast through the freezing sea breezes toward the site where the pyramid is located."

    (minus two of the commas)
p.s. I noticed those participle clauses and passive report :)

  5. Hello, I would like to thank you all for commenting my post and I also want to apologize for any mistakes of the post. To clarify your wondering, these are my answers.
As mentioned, the sunken Yonaguni pyramid is believed to have been formed naturally by some scientists. However, if you search for the building images on Google, you will find a picture of a statue looking like a man's head and another one with a carving of a butterfly-liked animal on the pyramid's wall with 2 divers at the side. Obviously, I really do not think that"Nature"could do all these.

  6. As for the reason that I described Yonaguni pyramid as Asian Atlantis is because Yonaguni and Atlantis share some similarities. They are both now underwater and were all amazing structures both destroyed by natural disasters. I actually got this idea from The Guide to Indonesia book which describes Borobudur temple as Indonesian Angkor Wat.
And thank you anyway Rainbow from YL10. If you want to be like me, I bet you can be much better as long as you have the desire to be a good writer. First, you have to know as much English as you can ,then you need creativity. Put all your emotion in your writing ,make it in your own "right"way ,then the readers could feel and see that you are a good writer.
